Taxi between Paris stations: a fixed-price connection
Does your journey go through two Paris stations? Montparnasse and Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon or Saint-Lazare are not linked by one train. The taxi makes the connection in one go, at a fixed price quoted in advance, tracking your arriving train.
Paris has no central station: each main station serves its own region, and many journeys mean switching between them. The TGV from Bordeaux arrives at Montparnasse, the one to Marseille leaves from Gare de Lyon; the Eurostar from London arrives at Gare du Nord, while the train to the Alps also leaves from Gare de Lyon. In between, you have to cross the city with your luggage, often against the clock.
The taxi makes this connection in one go, at a fixed price quoted in advance. The driver tracks your arriving train, waits at the agreed exit and drops you as close as possible to the next departure hall. This page reviews the most requested links and what to plan for each.
Which station connections by taxi?
The most requested are Montparnasse ↔ Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord ↔ Gare de Lyon and Saint-Lazare ↔ Gare de Lyon or Montparnasse. All are direct, with no change and your cases in the boot.
- Montparnasse ↔ Gare de Lyon: about 7 km across the left bank; no direct metro, bus 91 links the two stations but slowly at busy times.
- Gare du Nord ↔ Gare de Lyon: the RER D is direct, but packed at peak times and awkward with large luggage.
- Saint-Lazare ↔ Gare de Lyon: line 14 is direct; the taxi avoids the long corridors at both stations.
- Gare du Nord ↔ Montparnasse: line 4 is direct, with stairs at each end.
- Gare du Nord ↔ Gare de l'Est: a few minutes' walk is enough; the taxi only helps with a lot of luggage.
What does a taxi between two Paris stations cost?
We quote a fixed price based on the two stations and the time, confirmed before booking. It does not depend on the traffic met on the way.
That is the point of a booked ride compared with a taxi taken at the station rank: on the meter, the approaches to Paris stations and busy boulevards quickly push the bill up, not to mention queuing at the rank when TGVs arrive. For two or three travellers with suitcases, the shared fixed price often stays very reasonable for the time saved.
How much margin between two trains?
It all depends on the time: on a Sunday morning, the crossing is quick; on a Friday late afternoon, it can take twice as long. Allow a comfortable margin between the first train's arrival and the second's departure, counting the time to leave the station and reach the right hall on arrival. If your first train runs late, the driver sees it and adjusts the pick-up; let us know about any ticket change.
- Give your arriving train number and the time of the next train.
- Specify your departure hall for a drop-off as close as possible to the platform.
- Mention bulky luggage, a boxed bike or a buggy.
With children, a buggy or an older traveller
Connections between Paris stations nearly always go underground: stairs, out-of-order escalators, crowded corridors and RER platforms where you have to board fast. For a family with a buggy, an older traveller or someone with reduced mobility, it is the hardest part of the trip. The taxi picks you up at the station exit, loads the luggage and drops you at street level, in front of the next hall. Tell us about a child seat, a folding wheelchair or help needed with luggage: we arrange it before you arrive, with no hidden surcharge.
